Atlas Peak Appellation

Wineries

Our property was part of an 800 acre ranch owned by the Warren family for the turn of the century.

Later all but 35 acres was sold off. A daughter, Gladys, married a local dairy owners, Manual Dutra, and lived on this remaining property. Gladys was an independent woman who lived alone on the property for many years after Manuel's death. The property was called Fox Peak, named for the 2000 foot peak that dominates the property. Gladys home was known to the locals as a place to stop by for a cold beer or cocktail whenever the porch light was on. Gladys was also known for a singular physical feature, she had part of her nose bitten off by a horse.

A structure on the property known as the wood cutter's cabin may be the oldest surviving structure in the area. Dating back to the early part of the 20th century to a time when the area was known as Atlas and had it's own school and church, the cabin according to some accounts, became the residence of a woman of ill repute.
